Valentina Manzoni is an Italian-Swiss director and visual artist, born in 1994. In 2017, she graduated in Video and Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She took her first steps as a director under the guidance of Abbas Kiarostami and Béla Tarr, while working in production roles with the film collective Mass Ornament Films. In 2020, she returned to Milan after a residency at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV in Cuba. With the support of the Municipality of Milan, she co-founded Genealogie del Futuro, a cultural association of artists and curators under 30 dedicated to the production and dissemination of works that engage with eco-sustainability practices. She is a contributor to the open archive “Labour in a single shot” founded by Harun Farocki and Antje Ehmann. She is currently working on her first photography book and, when not engaged in her own artistic research, coordinates the production of the Spring Academy workshop and the programming of the Cineasti del presente competition for the Locarno Film Festival. To date, she has directed three short films, which have been presented at independent and internationally renowned festivals (Filmmaker Film Festival, Milan, and Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland).
