Not at home Film Residency

We are painfully aware that we do not possess concrete tools to intervene directly in what is happening. Yet we believe that — as a cultural institution — we still hold a responsibility: to keep our gaze alive, to refuse to look away, to use the tools we know in order to generate awareness and share narratives that risk being silenced. From this standpoint, we choose to formally distance ourselves from any entity, association, individual or company that, in any form, supports the genocide taking place in Gaza.

Our work is not only about cinema: it is about creating cultural projects, imagining new spaces of meaning, and building communities capable of recognising one another, engaging in dialogue, and taking care of each other through art. It is from this vision that we decided to create an artist residency within the Lago Film Residency project, dedicated to a Palestinian filmmaker. This is how the first edition of the Not At Home Film Residency was born: a programme that aims to offer time, space, and attentive listening to those who — despite everything — continue to imagine and create.

The person selected through this call will spend the residency period from 6 April to 6 May 2026: two weeks in Fiorano Modenese, hosted by Ennesimo Film Festival, and two weeks in Revine Lago, hosted by Piattaforma Lago and Lago Film Fest. Throughout these six weeks, they will work on the writing of their next film and will take part in activities of exchange with the territory, public moments of dialogue, meetings with the local community, and opportunities to present their work and vision.

The residency has a dual objective: on one side, to provide real time and space for research and writing; on the other, to create moments of encounter, listening, and dialogue with the public, so that we may reflect — together — on one of the most complex and painful issues of our time: the ongoing extermination in Gaza and, more broadly, the Palestinian question.

We are fully aware that a project like this, on its own, will not change the course of events. But we believe in the value of symbolic gestures when they are also concrete, in the power of narratives when they are shared, in the possibility that an artistic experience can generate community, attention, and depth. This is our small signal — our way of continuing to do what we know how to do best: cultivating culture, relationships, and encounter.
